What programs are good for changing photos to black n white,but with some colour?

Also, how do u actually do it in the program?What programs are good for changing photos to black n white,but with some colour?
It is called Selective (or partial) desaturation.

1. Duplicate your background layer.

2. Desaturate that layer (i.e. make it b%26amp;w).

3. Apply a layer mask to the layer. Use the black brush to paint on the layer mask (make sure that is where you are, not on the image itself). That will bring the color back to those areas. If you make a mistake, change the brush to white and go over it. Using a masking technique is best because you can keep adjusting it and fixing mistakes, which can't be done easily with the eraser.

4. When you're happy, flatten and save.

If you don't have any image editors, you can do it for free on www.picnik.com in their effects section.

Here is how to do it on picnik.com:

Upload a photo

Click on the ';Create'; tab

Click on ';Black and white';

In the ';Effect Painting'; box, choose ';Original';

Choose a brush size, then simply paint the color back in where you want it.

If you make a mistake, change it to ';Effect'; and go over the mistake.

Save the picture.

P.S. this question gets asked many times every day.

A quick search on Yahoo Answers would have brought up countless responses.

Look/scroll up right now - see the white box right next to ';Search for questions:'; - that's the search box.What programs are good for changing photos to black n white,but with some colour?
Loads of programs can do it such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. You find the brush settings and change to desaturate and go over the bits you want to make black and white. Quite simple.
Theres this website i use that works amazing! I use it to edit all my pics. Its called mytheme.com and the link is http://www.blibs.com/editor/

Using this you can do just about anything with your pictures. hope this helped you!
Hi,

I answered this one yesterday - so have copied it for you.

Go to photobucket - link below - its free.

Quick way to modify/soften the photobucket sepia - or indeed any of the built-in enhancements.

Open your image, go to ';layers'; and make another copy. Convert that copy to, say sepia, move the sepia image on top of the colour one (make sure it is exactly in line), and reduce the opacity (in ';layers'; there is an opacity slider). With 100% opacity you get the full sepia effect, with 0% opacity you get the full colour effect, so you have very fine control of just how much sepia you add the the image by adjusting the opacity slider.

This is exactly how a Photoshop user could choose to do this - a pretty powerful feature - and free!

I would also adjust the brightness and contrast a bit of the colour image, before you apply the sepia/black %26amp; white treatment. You can also combine sepia with black %26amp; white just by making another additional layer and adjusting the opacity.

If you have not used and editing programme before - you will need to get a bit of practice - but that's part of the fun!

Good luck!

Cheers

Charles
