On NCIS, the characters use their computers only using the keyboards ?

They only use they keyboards, and they can change photos and programs all just by typing, and zoom in and lighten and darken areas on photos on video's and stuff. How do they do it ? Do they use a different operating system where you just have to type what you wqant to happen, or are there just things that you can type to do stuff like that ? Or what ?On NCIS, the characters use their computers only using the keyboards ?
The 'computers' on NCIS are just animations created by playback artists - maybe the animations are keyed to switch when an actor presses a key, or maybe it's controlled off-camera. That's where the zooming map on their ';plasma'; and Abby's DoD-hacking stuff comes from.

From a computer science point of view, typing commands to make a program do something can be accomplished by a terminal emulator, similar to DOS or Bash. Some programs for Windows have that functionality - you type what you want into a terminal, and the program does it for you. This is another way of interacting with programs on a computer; the other is clicking icons with a mouse pointer. What doesn't make sense from a CS standpoint (but looks cool on NCIS, Atlantis, SG-1, and BSG) is the use of the graphical components (W, I, and M) of WIMP interaction (window, icon, menu, pointer) and leaving out the pointer. Human-computer interaction with a keyboard in a shell is usually used on systems that don't have a graphical user interface - or a monitor - but, it does look cool.On NCIS, the characters use their computers only using the keyboards ?
Keyboard shortcuts I suppose but try and remember that it IS tv. It's all totally fake anyway. Somebody offscreen is controlling all that, dude. You DID know that, right? In fact, it is very hard to film a television or computer screen that is on. Most times, they film it as just a blank screen and the images are added later in editing.
