1. Open your photo, make a copy (Layer%26gt;New%26gt;Layer From Background) and close the original photo because we never work on the original and the original Background layer is locked. Drag the original locked Background layer to the Layers Palette trashcan or click on its eye to make it invisible. Click the copy's layer to make it active. Do any adjustments (lighting, etc.) on the photo that need to be done.
2. Open the Effects Palette and click on the third icon from the left, Photo Effects, at the top of the palette. Click on the dropdown menu and select Monotone Color and select Tint Sepia. To apply the effect: click and drag the Tint Sepia icon onto the image in the workspace; click the icon once and click the Apply button at the bottom of the palette; double click the icon. Notice that the sepia image is on its own layer in the Layers Palette.
3. The Tint Sepia gives an overall sepia look but kind of muddies the image. To make the image ';pop'; again change the blend mode of the sepia layer to Color. The blend modes are at the top of the Layers Palette, the box that says Normal. Click the drop down for the choices. Color is toward the bottom of the list.
4. Enhance%26gt;Adjust Color%26gt;Adjust Hue/Saturation and slide the middle slider, Saturation, to the right to increase the saturation of the color a tad.
5. If you like to experiment, try some of the presets and the sliders in Enhance%26gt;Adjust Color%26gt;Adjust Color Curves. If you do too much and want to undo all the curves adjusting you've done, click the Reset button up in the right corner.
6. Use File%26gt;Save As and save your new sepia image with a slightly different name so you don't overwirte and destroy the original image. (I usually just add ED - for ';edited'; - to the end of the original name.)How do i change a photo to sepia tones in photoshop elements?
